simple mobile networks
A new way of building private mobile networks for co-operatives and communities
How it works
Instead of costly and time-consuming case-by-case integration projects, Pouta provides LTE and 5G networks that can be deployed like Ikea furniture by people without special telecom knowledge.
Pouta consists of one or more base stations...
...and a local core and service platform.
Just power up the devices and enjoy your local private mobile network!

Frequently asked questions
When should I consider replacing my current Wifi solution with private 4G or 5G? With Wifi it is difficult to cover large areas - especially if radio conditions keep changing. This is what happens in logistics centers or at festivals e.g., when containers are brought to the site or when people with active Wifi tethering move in the area.
When should I consider replacing my current solution relying on public mobile with private 4G or 5G? If connectivity is business critical and there is a risk that public mobile networks are crowded it makes sense to set up a temporary private mobile network. In large events and festivals the uplink load of public networks is very heavy as phones automatically upload pictures and videos to cloud services. On large industrial sites corporate security policies often require that IoT traffic has to remain local as it may contain trade secrets. This is an important driver for private mobile.
When should I build private 5G. When is private 4G good enough? There are two good reasons to build private 5G: If only 5G frequencies are available for private networks, the choice is easy. This is the case e.g., in Germany and Denmark. The second good reason is capacity needs. For use cases with many high quality video streams (especially upstream) 5G is needed. For regular IoT use cases such as payment termials at a Festival or ERP connectivity and sensors at a factory site 4G with 20 MHz of bandwidth is enough. 4G is still considerably cheaper and has a mature user equipment ecosystem.
Where is the Poutanet network rental available? Currently rental services are available for EU countries. Note that base station hardware availability beyond the most commonly used (B38, B40, n77) has to be discussed case by case.
